Bands of heavy rainfall with rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are moving across the southern end of the state today. While Houston will be on the fringes of the low that is forcing this rain, we stand to see some heavy downpours. The southwestern portion of our viewing area is the favored region for the heaviest rain today. Matagorda, Jackson, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Wharton, and Colorado counties will see the highest 24hr rainfall totals today from late morning to early afternoon. Some spots will pickup almost an inch of rainfall with isolated amounts up to 2 inches before sundown.

The darker green and yellow shades above indicate rainfall amounts above a half inch. A few severe thunderstorms could also develope in the heat of the day with high winds and large hail. Stay tuned to 11 News for weather updates on this developing weather thoughout the day.
