After winds gusting to near 40mph spread fire to many homes in Montgomery and Grimes counties yesterday, today will see improvements. Winds are calm this morning and temps have dropped into the upper 50's in the northern half of the area. The cooler mornings help a lot but it's the decrease in wind speed the next few days that will help the most.
Winds are forecast to be out of the northeast at 5-7mph by noon and peak at 8-12mph around 5pm. Winds will settle back down to near zero overnight before repeating the same light wind speeds for Wednesday and probably Thursday as well. This drop in wind speed above all else will help the firefighters.
Meanwhile, the dry conditions get worse with relative humidities dropping below 25% each afternoon and no rain in the 7-day forecast.
