HOUSTON -- The yearly rainfall deficit has been increasing since the beginning of Fall for the gulf coast. We are fast closing in on a 6" shortage of rainfall by the end of November. Monthly rainfall totals have been progressively dropping.
The latest radar only shows trace amounts of rain with another chance of showers after the holiday weekend early next week. If we don't get any major rainfall in December, the moderate drought in over 60% of the state will expand.
While most of the state has recovered from the extreme to exceptional drought conditions of last year. The Texas panhandle continues to be very dry and now acounts for almost a quarter of the extreme drought conditions in the state. It now is a part of the mid-western drought region that qualifies for federal assistance.
