Model runs continue to suggest that Houston and southeast Texas will see much colder temperatures next week. An arctic front will push into north Texas this weekend and send cold air our way early in the week. But just how cold will it get? Some models have suggested multiple days in a row of temps below freezing while others are not quite so cold. Also, we may get a second surge of cold air later in the month (17th-19th) that could be much colder than the stuff we'll get next week.
So what should you be doing? Think about what you need to do to protect exposed pipes from freezing and if you have livestock prepare extra food and shelter just in case the cold air does come our way. I think the computer model runs over the coming weekend will give us a clearer picture of what to expect. However, computers have historically had a hard time forecasting these very cold, heavy air masses so uncertainty remains high for now.
We'll keep you posted here and on 11News as we get closer to this possible very cold air event next week and beyond.
