Not quite the hottest weekend of the Summer, but August lives up to its reputation this week as one of the hottest. The week has started out with near 100 degree readings on Sunday. Monday starts out with 100 degree temperatures North of I-10 and mid to upper 90s along the coast. The readings will stay warmer than usual until the weekend when tropical moisture returns along with the possibility of a few showers.
The month of August also means the tropics will be warmer and more active. We are monitoring an organized pattern of clouds halfway between the lesser Antilles and the Cape Verde Islands that will likely turn into a named storm within the next couple of days. There is moderate shear so no closed center of circulation has developed. As the storms drifts slowly West conditions should be more favorable for development. The latest models show a track that could threaten the Lesser Antilles and the Bahamas this week.
