There's a lot going on this weekend and if you're planning to head out to enjoy one of several great events going on, here's what you can expect. First, it won't be as bright nor as mild as it was last weekend. Instead, it'll be a more typical April weekend meaning more humid and warm. It has been rather breezy the last few days, but this weekend the winds won't be as strong and there will be subtle shift in winds from south to southeast. That's why it will feel more humid and why we'll see clouds in the morning becoming partly cloudy by afternoon. I'm not expecting any rain until late Sunday night going into Monday.
Beside the International Festival concluding downtown this weekend, there's also the NHRA Spring Nationals over at Royal Purple Raceway (formerly Baytown Motor Speedway). Great hot rod action takes place in muggy weather conditions:
Finally, if you're doing some boating or fishing in Galveston Bay or down on the island, steady southeast winds will continue to blow and because of high surf, swimmers should be very careful. The threat of rip tides means most should not go in higher than waist high water. Here's the marine forecast:
Also, in Sugar Land, the Skeeters continue their inaugural home stand, up in the Woodlands, there's a 5K run fundraiser for the David Center. That facility at the Texas Children's hospital is named after David, commonly referred to as the "Bubble Boy". In Kemah, you might be taking part in the Triathlon or perhaps you're ready to chow down on some crawdaddies in one of several craw fish gatherings like Conroe's Craw Jam.
Whatever you're planning, just be sure to keep the sunscreen handy as well as plenty of bottled water. Have a great weekend!
