A hard freeze warning is in effect for cities like Conroe, The Woodlands, Livingston and Cold Spring. This region could experience readings below 25 degrees for a couple of hours until 9am Tuesday. Houston plunges into the deep freeze by 6pm Thursday and Houston will begin the first of two consecutive 12 to 18 hour periods of below freezing temperatures. Most local hardware stores will be stocked up with a good supply of wrapping materials for pipes and plants. Don't forget to bring your pet indoors or provide a shelter for them in your garage or yard. Remember to your keep your pets away from dangerous chemicals like antifreeze that you may have stored in your garage.

The last time Houston saw numbers in the lower teens was the Christmas of 1989.
