DALLAS -- Temperatures dipped below freezing in north Texas as some schools and offices closed during the hazardous winter travel conditions.
Freezing rain was reported in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Thursday morning.
Gov. Rick Perry ordered the activation of the National Guard and other state resources as a precaution for any weather-related emergencies. Personnel and equipment were positioned in Corsicana, Huntsville, Lufkin, Marshall and New Boston.
The Texas Health and Human Services Department announced a delay until 10 a.m. Thursday in the opening of offices in Dallas, Wise, Palo Pinto, Parker, Tarrant, Collin, Hunt, Rockwall, Johnson, Erath, Ellis, Hood, Kaufman, Cooke, Grayson, Fannin and Denton counties.
