Winter is finally getting it's act together with temperatures 20 to 30 below zero common in the Minnesota area this weekend. The question is when could this air make it to Texas. The overall weather pattern matches the early December pattern that brought Houston its earliest snow on record and temperatures in the mid 20S. The difference this time is that their may not be as much moisture available for freezing precipitation. Also the timing of the arctic blast is earlier making for sleet rather than a snow event. Freezing temperatures may extend all the way to Galveston Island by Friday and Saturday morning. The most likely areas for sleet may be just North of Houston along a Brenham to Bryan to Huntsville line by Thursday morning with cold arctic air drying out the atmosphere by the end of the day.
