Hurricane Bill became a hurricane on Aug 17th at 5am. The Hurricane may become the first major hurricane of the season as you can see from the official track from the National Hurricane center. Fortunely the track shows a slight turn to the Northwest based on a weakness in the ridge that is currently steering the hurricane westerly. Light wind sheer and warmer water provide a strenghtening environment through the end of the week as the hurricane recurves to the Northwest. Ana on the other hand continues to weaken as it encounters the land masses of the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico over the next few days. Tropical Storm Claudette has a positive impact on Florida except for Summer vacationers. As of Monday morning the storm has funneled substantial Gulf moisture into the Florida panhandle. Areas near Fort Walton beach have already had 3" of rain with another 3" to 6" of rain on the way to the Florida panhandle.
