HOUSTON – A former U of H and Oklahoma University football player was charged Friday after a man’s body was found November 28 near a southwest Houston convenience store.
Police said 44-year-old Percy Hines III was arrested and charged with murder in the man’s death.
Hines played defensive back at Oklahoma University from 1983 to 1985 and at U of H for the 1986 and 1987 seasons.
Authorities said a customer of the convenience store, located in the 3400 block of West Orem, notified the owner around 7:30 p.m. that a man who appeared dead was inside an extended cab pickup truck in the parking lot.
Police said an investigation and witness statements determined the truck had been parked in the lot since November 22. The vehicle had not been reported stolen.
Authorities said an autopsy was performed to determine the victim’s identity and cause of death.
It was not clear how the investigation led authorities to Hines.
