HOUSTON – Frustrated convenience store owners are devising plans to safeguard their ATMs from relentless thieves.
There have been six ATM heists in northeast Houston this week. The routine is similar. The crooks crash a pickup truck into the front of a store then use sledgehammer to clear away debris in order to gain access to the ATM. They load the ATM on the truck and drive away.
Store owners are considering moving their ATMs away from the window and surrounding them with barricades.
According to police, the crooks have been leaving their fingerprints all over town.
Detectives believe they are very close to making an arrest.
