HOUSTON—Police are on the lookout for a group of men they said forced their way into a home after one suspect posed as a census taker. The group beat the occupants and killed one man before fleeing the scene. It happened Saturday evening in the 400 block of Truman at Nicholson in north Houston.

Police said around 6 p.m., HPD responded to a call about a home invasion and armed robbery.
Police said a man knocked on the door of a residence claiming to be a census taker. When the homeowner opened the door, several men pushed their way in, held the homeowner at knifepoint and demanded money.
The homeowner began to struggle with the suspects, who beat and stabbed him. The suspects also beat other adults in the home.
Two victims were taken to the hospital. One was transported in serious condition, but died as a result of his stab wounds. The other victim only suffered minor injuries.
The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, but police do not have a description at this time. Police said they believe robbery was the motive, but it is unknown if they took anything from the residence.
