HOUSTON – A nationwide manhunt is under way for a suspect in the shooting death of a 12-year-old Las Vegas girl.
The skeletal remains of Lexis Kaye Roberts were found by hunters in a wooded area north of Harrisonburg, Louisiana on Oct. 8. She had been shot to death.
Lexis was last seen in early September with her mother, Suellen Roberts, and Thomas Sanders,. They were in a silver 2001 Kia Spectra with Nevada license plate 153UCR.
Thursday, the FBI announced that Sanders has been charged with abducting Lexis. Sanders was seen on a surveillance camera on Sept. 3 buying ammunition at a Las Vegas Walmart that matches the caliber used to kill Lexis.
Sanders is a 53-year-old white male with brown hair. He’s about 5’8 and at least 200 pounds. Sanders has a tattoo on his chest of an unknown design and a scar on his abdomen. Associates say he is missing his upper teeth and has only two lower teeth.
Sanders has worked as a welder, scrap metal collector, night watchman, pallet fabricator and handyman.
The Kia Spectra Sanders was last seen driving had damage on the passenger side doors. The Nevada license plate may have been replaced.
