GALVESTON — One of two women attacked while jogging last year testified Tuesday that a man tackled her on the seawall and she fought him as he attempted to pull her shorts down.
The statements came in the first day of testimony against Christopher Adrian Vela, 25, who pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempt to commit sexual assault, stemming from Aug. 13, 2012, attacks of women jogging on the seawall and on 51st Street.
Prosecutor Kacey VanDeaver told the jury Tuesday that Vela spent the night and early morning hours before the attacks drinking at different businesses on the island. VanDeaver accused Vela of having an argument with a woman described as either his girlfriend or ex-girlfriend.
