HOUSTON—A man was charged Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting a southwest Houston mother while her children were home, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s office.
Police said the suspect, 23-year-old Marlon Jovel Hernandez, assaulted the woman in her apartment in the 9300 block of Town Park on November 18, 2010.
The woman and her children were asleep in their apartment when she woke up and went to the bathroom around 2 a.m. The woman then heard a noise coming from the kitchen, according to police. As she walked out of the bathroom, the suspect allegedly grabbed her and pushed her onto the living room sofa.
Police said he hit her twice in the face, choked her and threatened to kill her if she did not cooperate.
The suspect then proceeded to sexually assault the woman.
After the assault, he escaped the apartment through a window in the kitchen area.
The woman called authorities who conducted a rape kit.
Police said a tip led them to Hernandez on November 23. Hernandez denied knowing the woman and provided police with DNA.
The Houston Police Department crime lab made a positive DNA match on February 14.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office charged Hernandez with aggravated sexual assault of an adult. His bond was set at $50,000.
