LEAGUE CITY, Texas — The fatal shooting of a man defending his property from vehicle burglars resulted in a murder conviction Friday, despite the defendant’s claims of self-defense.
A jury of seven women and five men in Judge Lonnie Cox’s 56th District Court in Galveston deliberated less than two hours before finding Erick Herman Santos-Valdez, 20, guilty of murder.
Santos-Valdez waited until taking the witness stand Thursday to claim self-defense in the June 5, 2011, fatal shooting of Daniel Lee Clark.
Clark suffered five gunshot wounds and was found dead in the street in front of his house in the 1900 block of Acacia Street in League City.
