HOUSTON – A man was behind bars Friday after police say he carjacked a Planet Ford car salesman during a test drive along the North Freeway.
Absalom Owens, 39, is charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
According to court documents, Owens was test-driving a 2011 Ford F-450 Super Duty King Ranch Edition pickup truck on April 29 with a salesman when he pulled into the Basset Furniture parking lot and produced a semi-automatic pistol.
The salesman said Owens pointed the gun at him and said, "I hate to tell you this but I need you to please get out of the vehicle."
The salesman told police he complied with Owens’ demands, but before he got out he grabbed a sheet of paper with a copy of Owens’ driver’s license and insurance cards.
Owens fled the scene in the truck.
When investigators showed the salesman a photo of Owens, the salesman identified him as the suspect, according to court documents.
Owens was later arrested and was being held in the Harris County Jail on $100,000 bond Friday.
The car salesman was not injured.
