HOUSTON—Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help finding a hit-and-run driver who stole a victim’s phone to prevent him from calling for emergency assistance.
It happened on Sunday, July 14, at approximately 8 a.m. in the 1200 block North of the Westview intersection.
Police said the 34-year-old victim was walking from the west side of the West Beltway 8 feeder near when he was struck by a man in an early model black regular cab Ford F150 pickup.
The suspect pulled to the side of the road and walked over to where the victim was laying as the victim attempted to place a call for help. Police said the suspect snatched the phone from the victim’s hand to prevent him from making the call. Then the suspect jumped back into the truck and fled with the victim’s phone.
The victim was later transported to the hospital where he was treated for a broken right leg, broken pelvis, and non-repairable severe damage to the pelvis.
The suspect is described as an Hispanic man who is about 35 years old, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds. Police said the man has a bushy goatee and a distinctive skin condition causing white spots all over his face, neck and arms.
