HOUSTON—A former detention officer with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

David Wayne Land was convicted of promotion and possession of child pornography.

The conviction and sentence occurred as the result of a plea agreement between Internet Crimes prosecutor Liah Olsen and the defense lawyer.  The punishment ranged from 2 to 20 years in prison or 2 to 10 years probation.

A federal search warrant was executed on Land’s home in Porter, Texas after investigators gathered evidence that he was involved in offering for distribution two video files portraying minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.  An examination of computers and equipment collected from Land’s residence showed that he was in possession of over 9,500 images and 62 videos portraying minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

When investigators entered the residence they found Land’s adult daughter and a 10-year-old minor male not related to Land.  The minor was taken to Children’s Safe Harbor for a forensic interview he indicated inappropriate behavior had taken place at the residence, according to investigators.
