Here's the way HD Doppler Radar stands at 8:30 this morning with the leading edge of a west Texas thunderstorm complex 200 miles from downtown Houston. The storms are heading east at about 30-40mph which should have them reaching downtown Houston between 2 and 3pm this afternoon. The storms may slow down some as they approach southeast Texas so timing is not perfect.
I'm concerned that we're going to have to 'up' the severe threat and straight line damaging winds may knock power out in many neighborhoods today. Also small hail will accompany the stronger storms. Rain totals could be as high as 3" in some spots before the rain exits tonight.
DO NOT get caught on the water when these storms move in this afternoon !!!
A strong cold front will cross the coast around 10am Friday morning bringing an end to the rain and ushering in a north wind, cooler temps and a wonderful sunny cool weekend!
