GALVESTON, Texas—Starting Monday, November 7, the Texas Department of Transportation will begin repaving Seawall Boulevard, 61st Street west to FM 3005.
Crews will begin by tearing out the existing roadway to repair the base of the road. During this first phase of work (for the next two to three weeks), the closures will mainly affect night-time commuters, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., to minimize the impact during higher traffic times.
Next, crews will install a new asphalt surface and apply temporary pavement markings. Alternating daytime, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., traffic lane closures are planned. Officials estimate it will take two to three weeks to complete this phase of the project.
At least one eastbound and one westbound traffic lane will remain open throughout the duration of the project, but drivers are encouraged to be especially careful in the construction zone. The estimated timetable for construction is weather-dependent.
