HOUSTON—Are you tired of watching those gas prices tick up? Metro wants to help you to save money by hopping on the bus. The agency has launched a new online tool to help you figure out just how much money you could hang onto by using public transportation.
All you have to do is provide information about your commute, such as the length of your drive, how many days you commute and the make and model of your car. The website then figures in gas prices. For most drivers, the savings is hundreds of dollars per month.
"The American Public Transportation Association has determined based on a number of surveys across the country that a driver in light of the prices of gas today a driver can save about $10,000 a year deciding instead of driving to work every day, taking public transportation," Jerome Gray, Metro Senior Press Officer told KHOU 11 News.
