HOUSTON – All eastbound main lanes of the Katy Freeway will be closed just west of downtown over the weekend.
Eastbound drivers will be forced to exit at Studemont near downtown starting Friday at 9 p.m. The lanes between Studemont and I-45 are scheduled to reopen before Monday morning’s rush hour commute.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, a tall freight truck struck a section of the Houston Avenue Bridge and now repairs are needed. An emergency contract had to be drawn up for the repair work to take place.
KHOU 11 News traffic reporter Katherine Whaley suggests drivers avoid the area entirely and use Memorial Drive as an alternate, if possible.
