A small grass-roots effort in Northwest Houston is helping to make a big change for drivers along FM-1960. “Green Medians”, a committee of the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce, has raised over $300,000 to help beautify FM-1960, after the Texas Department of Transportation completes construction there. TxDOT has been working since February to rehabilitate a stretch of FM-1960, from just west of I-45 to just west of TX-249. The changes include: making signal improvements, lengthening left turn lanes, and adding raised medians to the 8-mile construction zone. The purpose of the project is to improve traffic flow along FM-1960, which is used by about 65,000 cars every day. “Green Medians” is leading the effort to help beautify the area for drivers and businesses. The organization will literally turn the new gray, concrete medians into fully-landscaped “green medians.” The group has already secured agreements to maintain and landscaping and provide irrigation. TxDOT has funded the construction work, but the landscaping project been made possible through private donations and fundraising efforts. If you are interested in supporting the group, the donations deadline is April 30. For more information click on the link below.
