Driving Houston's freeways can be a scary experience, but one driver had a unique concern that caught our attention. Vanessa Johnson emailed to report an unusual object hanging from a freeway overpass in the Galleria area.
Vanessa takes Richmond back and forth to work every day from the West Beltway to the Greenway Plaza area. "Some days when driving home I sit idle under the 610 overpass," she explained. A couple of weeks ago, while sitting at the light there, she spotted something a little strange. "There was this big metal slate hanging from the overpass… I just felt very uncomfortable sitting there not knowing if at any time it is going to loosen up and fall off." The un-identified object was hanging from 610 overpass over the left westbound lane of Richmond.
So Vanessa decided to email us with her concerns. "I said well hmm this seems to be unsafe to me, let me see if Katherine can help me out with this.”
So, we contacted TxDOT with the location and Vanessa’s information, and they took a bucket truck to the location to investigate. According to TxDOT officials, Vanessa was looking at a 2-by-4 piece of wood that was part of a leftover concrete form, that should have been removed. TxDOT officials say there was never any danger to drivers, but they cut it out, nonetheless.
“I appreciate it, so I feel a little safer now," Vanessa said.
