AUSTIN, Texas — Texas is one step closer to having an official state sea turtle.
The Texas Senate passed a bill Tuesday that would name the Kemp’s ridley sea turtle the official sea turtle of Texas. The bill was originally written by students at Galveston’s Oppe Elementary School.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Larry Taylor, R-Friendswood, was met with some good-humored resistance when it was presented for a vote on the Senate floor Thursday. The senators ultimately voted to pass the bill unanimously.
