HOUSTON—The Houston Astros took a break from baseball to play with puppies and kittens at Minute Maid Park Wednesday. The players and animals posed for pictures for the 2011 Astros Pet Calendar.
This is the third year the Astros have teamed up with the Houston Humane Society to produce the calendar and raise money for homeless animals.
The Astros featured in the 2011 calendar included Roy Oswalt, Hunter Pence, Jason Michaels, Tommy Manzella, Cory Sullivan, Jeff Keppinger, Bud Norris, Tim Byrdak, Jeff Fulchino, Chris Sampson, Geoff Blum and Kevin Cash.
A couple of Astros brought their own pets for the pictures, but most posed with animals provided by the Humane Society. HHS workers brought about 25 dogs and cats to Minute Maid Park for the photo shoot.
Each player chose the dog or cat they wanted to pose with for the calendar.
The 2011 Astros Pet Calendar will be sold for $10, and will be released in early September. The calendars will be available at all Houston Humane Society functions as well as online at the organization’s web site. The calendars can also be found at the Astros gift shop and local pet shops.
