LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas -- A judge ruled a group of animals in Liberty County were, in fact, cruelly treated and abandoned, and placed a judgment of $7,800 against the owners.
Pearl Eugene Morgan and Lucille Briles must pay that amount to reimburse the Houston SPCA for medical expenses and upkeep of the animals while in their care.
The judge also ruled that custody of the animals would be retained by the Houston SPCA.
The animals were found just barely clinging to life at a property on CR 3600 in North Liberty County.
Sheriff’s deputies received a complaint on June 3, 2014, and together with the SPCA, seized six horses, one donkey, two dogs, one cat and four pigs.
