HOUSTON – This is a love story about a couple named June and Johnny.
The stray dogs are inseparable and they apparently looked out for each other as they struggled to survive on Houston streets.
Earlier this week, when temperatures dipped into the 20s, June wandered into Houston Fire Station 17 on Navigation. She was obviously miserable from the cold and couldn’t stop shivering.
The kind-hearted firefighters wrapped June in blankets and fed her. Exhausted, she slept for hours.
June took off during the night and the firefighters thought she was gone for good.
But soon, she returned to the fire house with another shivering dog to introduce him to her new friends. It was as if she was showing him where to take shelter from the cold.
June and Johnny are now getting plenty of TLC at Friends for Life, a no-kill sanctuary in the Heights. Shelter workers say both dogs are very friendly with everyone. They prefer to be walked together because they don’t like to be apart.
June and Johnny are among the dozens of animals at Friends for Life that need homes. For more information, click here.
