SAN ANTONIO -- The SeaWorld community is mourning the loss of a beloved beluga whale. "Bella" died Sunday after a brief illness, according to a statement issued by SeaWorld.
Specifics on the illness were not released but a necropsy is scheduled to be performed. SeaWorld said the results will not be available for several weeks.
4-year-old "Bella" was born in San Antonio back in 2009 to "Crissy". At the time, KENS 5's Deborah Knapp spent some time with Bella before the animal made her public debut. The public was invited to vote online and give a name to Bella.
According to SeaWorld, the park is home to 9 other beluga whales.
