RICHMOND, Texas – A group of Good Samaritans has come to the rescue of a bulldog shot at close range with a shotgun.

The wounded dog was in grave condition Tuesday when he was found. The people who found him contacted St. Francis' Angels, a bulldog rescue group in Richmond, and they agreed to try to help him.

But the bulldog was unresponsive and veterinarians didn’t think he would survive.

St. Francis volunteers named him Thor and asked for prayers from animal lovers in the community. They also ignored the vet’s advice to euthanize him.

A group called Red Collar Rescue agreed to help pay for Thor’s care, including a CT scan to determine the extent of damage.

That scan brought good news Wednesday. The bullet is not in Thor’s brain and didn’t penetrate his skull.

Thor isn’t out of the woods yet. He lost his right eye and ear and most of his sinus cavities and will need much more care.

"We are cautiously optimistic about his chances at this time," St. Francis' Angels said on their Facebook page.

If Thor survives, he will need foster care -- and, hopefully, a forever home.

If you’re interested in helping Thor, please contact St. Francis Angels. You can make donations at redcollar.org.
