Pet Paradise, an upscale pet boarding and daycare resort, has teamed up with SNAP (Spay-Neuter Assistance Program, Inc ) to host the 2nd Annual “Hurricane Preparation for your Pet” event on June 19th, providing microchipping and rabies vaccinations for the low cost of $25 per pet. The event will be located at 7511 Monroe Road and will take place from 10am - 4pm.

Unfortunately, during Hurricane Ike, many pet owners left their pets behind to fend for themselves because they felt that they did not have other options. The purpose of this event is to give the community the tools they need to prepare, not only themselves for hurricane season, but their pets as well.

“SNAP is very excited to partner with Pet Paradise to present this event,” explains Laura Welch Director of Development Spay-Neuter Assistance Program, Inc.  “SNAP offers a variety of low-cost health and wellness services for Houston’s animals including annual vaccinations, rabies vaccinations and heartworm and flea prevention, to name a few. SNAP’s wellness services are available 7 days a week and open to the public, no appointment necessary.  SNAP is the perfect place to get your yearly vaccinations at a low cost and ensure that your animal has the necessary vaccinations to be boarded or travel should a natural disaster arise.”  The goal for this year’s event is to educate, microchip and rabies vaccinate at least 150 animals!

“We are very familiar with preparing for hurricane season because of the number of our resorts that are located in hurricane prone areas,” explains Fred Goldsmith CEO Pet Paradise Resort. “We have successfully evacuated pets from New Orleans and housed hundreds of pets at our Houston locations during Hurricane Ike. We want the community to understand that you do not have to leave your pets behind during a natural disaster.  We will board your pet at NO COST if you are in a mandatory evacuation zone and your pet has the proper vaccinations.”  Pet Paradise resort is a Hurricane 3 rated facility and serves an evacuation safe hold for pets in case of an emergency.

This event will also help educate the community on simple steps and provide literature on exactly what tools and steps can be taken to ensure the safety of their pets. There will also be pet friendly vendors with goodies bags for all participants.  To make a reservation for this event, call 713.941.3647, space is limited and you must register for this event.

About SNAP

SNAP, the recipient of the 2009 Pinnacle Award from the Better Business Bureau, is a 501(c)(3) organization that operates in Houston, and San Antonio, Texas, with a mission to prevent the suffering and death of cats and dogs due to overpopulation, especially in low-income areas. SNAP envisions a world without homeless dogs and cats. Both Houston and San Antonio have expressed the desire to become “no kill” cities in the near future. SNAP recognizes that sterilization programs, which by definition reduce the number of animals that could possibly be born, are essential to these communities’ reaching that desired status. SNAP will focus on helping these cities reach their goal by designing, delivering, promoting, and advancing community-based animal sterilization services.
