There won’t be polka bands, chicken dances, Bavarian costumes or beer, but there might just be a German Shepherd mix dog or two at the Houston SPCA’s BARKTOBERFEST!

There are many happy hunde (that’s German for dogs!) at the Houston SPCA that are longing for a permanent, loving home to call their own. In addition, on Wednesday the Houston SPCA will once again lend a helping hand to their neighbors in Louisiana as they take in close to 50 dogs that were left homeless due to the Gulf Oil Spill tragedy.

In celebration of BARKTOBERFEST, the adoption fee for all dogs 6 months of age or older and weighing 30 pounds or more will be deeply discounted at half off the normal adoption fee! This is offer is good through Sunday, October 3, 2010 only.

Regardless of the size, age or breed, dogs make loyal companions and are a great addition when considering adding a companion to your family. Thanks to the helpful staff at the Houston SPCA, here is what your new furever friend will receive as a part of their adoption package:

• A health evaluation; initial vaccinations; rabies vaccinations for canines three months and older

• Spay / neuter surgery

• Deworming; heartworm testing for canines 6 months and older

• Microchipping with free lifetime registration; and of course a friend for life!

• As an added bonus, VCA Animal Hospitals will provide a complimentary overall wellness examination (within five days after adoption) and complimentary 14-day follow-up care for certain conditions to give your pet the very best in medical care.

• One free bag of puppy / dog food courtesy of Hill’s Science Diet.

There is a dog at the Houston SPCA that will make your life complete, so save a life and gain a friend! View all the adorable adoptables at the Houston SPCA today!
