A new ad campaign stars friends of BARC!  Chosen from dozens of local non-profits, Friends of BARC will be featured in an upcoming advertising campaign awarded by the American Advertising Federation–Houston. It consists of tv commercials, radio spots, billboards and print ads, and stars rescued BARC cats and dogs!   Created by a committee of volunteers lead by Dwight Douthit of Douthit Design Group, the pro-bono campaign is a way for AAF–Houston to give back to the community. Start watching for the ads next month. You can preview them at We hope the new campaign will encourage more Houstonians to support friends of BARC through volunteering, donations and adopting animals from BARC.

Now, let's meet two of this week's BARC’s stars currently available for adoption. You can say you knew them before they were famous!

ROXY - Currently holding the dubious distinction of being the longest resident at BARC, ROXY is a young pit bull mix. Waiting patiently since March for her hero to come, ROXY is a little timid and submissive. Can you blame her? The dog pound can be a pretty scary place. ROXY is gentle and quiet, and she likes other dogs. She's also easy on a leash and seems to be housebroken. Just about a year old, ROXY is already spayed, microchipped and heartworm negative. This girl has a lot of life to live. She deserves a better chance.  ROXY'S TIME IS RUNNING OUT! Look for ROXY at BARC in South A12, I.D. number A1018322.
OLI - Are you lonely? Is your house too quiet and you wish you had someone to talk to? Meet OLI (short for OLIVIA), the answer to all your problems. Not only is this cat super-friendly and out-going, but she is also the most chatty cat you'll ever meet! You'll never be bored again with OLI to entertain you. At just over a year old, OLI is as playful and silly as a kitten, and she loves to cuddle. The best part is OLI will agree with everything you say! OLI is spayed and microchipped and ready to leave BARC today.
Look for OLI at BARC in the new cat building, Open Adoption Room 25, I.D. number A1024396.

The Grand opening weekend of the new cat building was a great success with over 120 animals leaving BARC safely!  BARC’s longest doggy resident Rio went home with a big-hearted woman who works in a vet clinic and she says he will get lots of special attention.  BARC’s longest kitty resident Booh went home with a foster, as did Benz and Kris.  Handsome Bentley was adopted from BARC the same day he was featured in BARC STARZ! Cuddly dog Bear was also adopted.  Lovely Dallas left with a kind foster, while long-timers Barney, Trevor (a.k.a. "Trubble") and  Gunther were transferred to the Houston SPCA.

Remember…every Saturday all adoptions are half-price—only $27.50!  Plus free hot dogs and soft drinks courtesy of friends of BARC.
