Animals staying at the Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) shelter had something special to be thankful for this holiday season thanks to their friends at Rover Oaks Pet Resort! The staff at Rover Oaks spent the week roasting turkeys at their Houston and Katy resorts and, on the Tuesday before Turkey Day, they hand-delivered the tasty treat to the animals who are spending the holiday in the shelter, awaiting their forever homes. All of the adoptable animals enjoyed their meal and are ready for you to come and meet them and their furry friends, all of whom would be most thankful for a happy, safe and loving home for the holidays!
In 2007, Rover Oaks began serving homemade Thanksgiving turkey to the dogs and cats staying at their pet resorts, and three years ago co-owners Joy Lee and Steve Smith decided to expand the service to include pets at the shelter. Lee, a long-time volunteer for CAP, says, “When you see the loving care that our clients give their pet companions each day, it breaks your heart to know that thousands of wonderful shelter pets won’t enjoy that same happiness this Thanksgiving. We wanted to do something special for the pets at CAP and give them a holiday treat too.”
The staff at Rover Oaks put a lot of effort and love into this annual project. “It is so rewarding to be able to brighten the holidays for these loving animals,” said Steve Smith, co-owner of Rover Oaks Pet Resort. “We strongly encourage everyone to visit the animals at CAP and consider adopting, volunteering or donating to this great organization.”
Rover Oaks Pet Resort has two locations and specializes in pet lodging, training, grooming and doggie daycare. The Houston facility is located at 2550 West Bellfort near Reliant Stadium, and the Katy facility is located at 24250 Kingsland Blvd near Katy Mills Mall. Since opening in 2006, Lee and the staff at the Katy facility have helped CAP find homes for hundreds of dogs, many receiving full makeovers and, in some cases, training to help prepare them for a successful adoption. In addition, Lee has written and published Rover’s Rescues, a book of heart-warming stories about 25 of these pets with the goal of sharing their stories as well as raising much-needed funds to benefit the shelter.
Rover Oak’s commitment to helping the animals at CAP doesn’t stop there. On Saturday, December 8, Rover Oaks is inviting animals from the community to visit their Katy location for photos with Santa, with proceeds benefiting CAP. Reservations are required and can be made by calling Rover Oaks Katy at (281) 693-7687 or in person by visiting their front desk staff. It’s a great way to get that perfect holiday photo while helping countless animals in need as they await their new home for the holidays.
