Following news that an animal rights group has claimed responsibility for arson at a California cattle ranch, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) condemned this terrorist act that put animals and people in harm's way.
"The AVMA condemns this act of terrorism," says Dr. Ron DeHaven, chief executive officer of the AVMA. "It's disturbing to me, as a person who cares deeply about the safety and welfare of animals, that someone would commit arson, putting both animals and people in danger, and then claim they did it to promote the welfare of animals."
The fire destroyed 14 big-rig tractors at the Harris Ranch cattle operation in California on January 8. The next day, the North American Animal Liberation Press Office announced that an anonymous animal rights group was claiming responsibility for the fires and described how the fires were set.
