SNAP is thrilled to announce that the Collars for a Cause auction is now live online! Collars for a Cause is an online auction of one-of-a-kind dog collars created by designers, celebrities, artists, and other public figures. If you haven’t surfed over to CollarsforaCause.org yet, do so now. You will be amazed by what you see! There are painted collars, sewn collars, tooled leather collars, and jewel-studded collars. Some are intended to be worn while others constitute objets d’art or collectable celebrity memorabilia.

Among the collars is a simple leather collar adorned with marker-art hearts and the autograph of Margaret Cho, who drew the hearts herself. Famous interior designer Nate Berkus, long a fixture on the Oprah Winfrey Show, donated a hand-made leather collar with a brass-finish ring chain. He even autographed a copy of his book Home Rules for the winning bidder. There is an autographed white collar covered in marker art of electric guitars from actor Mark Salling who plays Noah "Puck" Puckerman on the break-out Fox network hit Glee. Joy Behar of The View also sent an autographed collar, this one decorated with colorful hand-drawn paw prints. HGTV hosts Clive Pearse and Lisa Laporta created their own collars and autographed copies of HGTV’s Designed to Sell book to go along with them. Artist Peter Main created an exquisite leather collar that simply has to be seen to be believed. It is truly a work of art. Hardware for Mr. Main’s collar was provided by Greg Jensen Originals, and it alone is worth $400. Another exquisite collar was created by artist Merrilee Payne with paints, beads, and precious gems. Description cannot do it justice, so you just have to see it! Oh, and let’s not forget the beautiful collar hand-painted by Houston artist Kermit Eisenhut for Mayor Annise Parker and autographed by the mayor herself! We could go on, but you get the point. This auction provides you with chance-of-a-lifetime opportunities to acquire unique and beautiful objects created by talented people who love animals.

That brings us to the goal of Collars for a Cause, which is to raise money to support SNAP spay-neuter programs. The auction is being conducted online for precisely this reason. The more people who have an opportunity to bid, the more we can raise to help animals. So while many of these collars will be on display at the SNAPshots Celebration on Thursday, December 2, 2010, you will only be able to bid on them online at CollarsForACause.org. This means that even if you can’t attend SNAPshots, you still have the opportunity to buy the collar of your dreams!

The Collars for a Cause auction began in mid-November and ends on Friday, December 10, 2010. Each collar auction closes at a different time during the day, so be sure to check the end date and time for the collar you want on the auction website. If worse comes to worst, and you don’t get the collar you want, you will be pleased to hear that Collars for a Cause is going to be an ongoing activity, and there will be more one-of-a-kind collars to come in the future!

SNAP is deeply grateful to designers, artists, celebrities, and donors listed below, who created or donated collars for Collars for a Cause.  Click here for the complete list
