Animals staying at the Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) shelter will have something special to be thankful for this holiday season from their friends at Rover Oaks Pet Resort!  Beginning Monday, November 22, the staff at Rover Oaks are roasting turkeys that they will deliver to the animals who are spending the holiday in the shelter, awaiting their forever homes.

In 2008, Rover Oaks began serving homemade Thanksgiving turkey to the dogs and cats staying at their pet resorts and last year co-owners Joy Lee and Steve Smith decided to expand the service to include pets at the shelter. Lee, a long-time volunteer for CAP, says, “When you see the loving care that our clients give their pet companions each day, it breaks your heart to know that thousands of wonderful shelter pets won’t enjoy that same happiness this Thanksgiving. We wanted to do something special for the pets at CAP and give them a holiday treat too.”

The staff at Rover Oaks put a lot of effort and love into this annual project. “It is so rewarding to be able to brighten the holidays for these loving animals,” said Steve Smith, co-owner of Rover Oaks Pet Resort. “We strongly encourage everyone to visit the animals at CAP and consider adopting, volunteering or donating to this great organization.”

Rover Oaks Pet Resort has two locations and specializes in pet lodging, training, grooming and doggie daycare. The Houston facility is located at 2550 West Bellfort near Reliant Stadium, and the Katy facility is located at 1011 South Katy-Fort Bend Road near Katy Mills Mall. Since opening in 2006, Lee and the staff at the Katy facility have helped CAP find homes for more than 100 dogs, many receiving full makeovers and, in some cases, training to help prepare them for a successful adoption. In addition, Lee has written and published Rover’s Rescues, a book of heart-warming stories about 25 of these pets with the goal of sharing their stories as well as raising much needed funds to benefit the shelter.

CAP is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides shelter, adoption, foster care, rescue and other valuable services to animals in need in the Houston area. It has earned
numerous awards for its operations and has the distinction of earning a four-star rating from Charity Navigator for six consecutive years. CAP also provides humane education and community outreach programs to encourage love and respect for all animals. They will soon be relocating from their current location to a beautiful new facility at I-10 and Barker-Clodine. If you would like to do something special to help make the holidays brighter for homeless pets, you can drop by the CAP shelter at 11975 Katy Freeway or by either Rover Oaks Pet Resort location to make a cash contribution or a donation of pet food and needed supplies.
