HOUSTON -- Drivers stuck in a traffic jam on the Gulf Freeway Friday witnessed the rescue of two horses from an overturned horse trailer.
The trailer flipped over around noon after a crash in the northbound lanes near the South Loop interchange.
All of the northbound lanes were blocked while Houston police officers worked to clear the scene.
No one was hurt, but it took awhile to rescue the horses that were inside the trailer.
They got one horse out and it was walked across the freeway to safety.
As Air 11 flew overhead, it appeared the second horse had been hurt or killed because It was lying motionless inside the trailer.
When workers pulled it out of the trailer, the horse stood up and appeared to be fine. Several police officers petted the horse to help calm it down before it was walked to a nearby field.
The trailer was uprighted and the accident scene was cleared just before 1 p.m.
