FLOWER MOUND — Dozens of dogs found abandoned on the side of the road are now getting a second chance.
On Sunday, groomers worked to clean up and heal dozens of neglected dogs. More than 50 maltese pups were found abandoned on the side of a Denton County road last week — likely dumped by a puppy mill.
Many of the pets hadn't been groomed in months, and were in bad shape.
"Some of these dogs will be ready a lot sooner than others," said Stacy Smith of the Humane Society of Flower Mound. "Some of them are much more social than others. Some of them have a lot more serious medical problems than others."
Rescuers say these dogs need to be spayed and neutered, and likely won't be available for adoption for another week.
