Native Houstonian Katherine Whaley is passionate about covering stories in city as diverse and dynamic as Houston. You can find Katherine anchoring KHOU 11 News at Noon and helping drivers Beat the Traffic on KHOU 11 News This Morning.
Katherine grew up in West Houston, attended Memorial High School, and graduated with a degree in History from Rice University. She returned to the Bayou City in 2009 from Las Vegas, Nevada, where she worked as an anchor, reporter, and even Weathercaster at KVBC-TV. Before heading out west, Katherine anchored and reported at KLFY-TV in Lafayette, Louisiana, and KAVU-TV in Victoria, Texas.
While in Lafayette, the Louisiana Associated Press recognized Katherine’s work, selecting her as 2007 Reporter of the Year - Division B. Katherine has covered everything from hurricanes to high profile court cases to entertainment news. In 2011, Katherine graduated from the Broadcast Meteorology Program through Mississippi State University.
When she’s not in front of the camera, Katherine enjoys exploring Houston's eclectic restaurant scene or experimenting with recipes in her own kitchen.
Katherine also stays active by hitting the gym, playing tennis, and enjoying Houston's museums and parks with family and friends.
Katherine takes every opportunity to travel, whether it's a weekend road trip to Galveston or an overseas adventure. She even spent a college semester learning Spanish at the University of Seville in Spain and a summer interning at People Magazine in London. Katherine feels blessed to be back in Houston, bringing information that helps people make a difference in their lives.
