KHOU 11 Sports Anchor Bob Allen began his job in April 2013 and is thrilled to be back on television. "I’ve still got a lot of stories left to tell and I’m very excited for the opportunity to be covering the stories so many people care about on a great television station like KHOU."

Bob has the longest tenure of any major market sports anchor in the country.

Over the years Bob has gotten involved with many local charities, but devotes much of his time to Special Olympics and The Sunshine Kids. Bob has served on the Board of Directors of both organizations, and was recognized with the highest honor given to a volunteer of Special Olympics, the Spirit of Special Olympics Award.

Bob has won many awards and honors for his work, including several Best Sportscaster awards.

Getting to know KHOU 11 Sports Anchor Bob Allen

Where were you born?

Born in Chicago but family moved to Houston when I was 7.

If you could trade lives with someone for a day, who would that be?

George Strait

Who are your favorite sports teams?

All the Houston teams. Texans would top the list.

What is your favorite sports moment?

It’s a tie. Game 7 of the Rockets Knicks NBA Finals. Houston gets it’s first major sports championship..and game 5 of the 2005 National League Championship Series where the Astros earned the right to go to their first World Series..okay make it a 3 way tie. The Texans first game when they beat the Cowboys.

What kind of music do you like and who is your favorite band?

All kinds. Got everything from Elvis to Adele to Sinatra to Otis Redding and Zac Brown on the iPod.

Who would you most like to interview that you haven't yet?

I think I’ve interviewed everyone living that I would want to..If I could get in a time machine it would be Babe Ruth.

If you did not work in sports, what would you be doing?

Some form of broadcasting. This is what I’m supposed to do.

What was the greatest story you ever told?

The one to my fifth grade teacher about the massive fire at our house that burned my homework

Who is your favorite sports player or coach?

Nolan Ryan. Bum Phillips.. I’ve known both for 35 years and they’re both friends.

Do you have any children?

One daughter, a 3 year old grandson Mason, and a one year old granddaughter Hayden.

If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it?

Blow some of it, make sure my family is taken care of and give the rest to the Sunshine Kids and Special Olympics.

Where do you like to vacation?

Anywhere with a beach, sun and someone bringing me cold beverages.

What are some of your favorite books and movies?

Outliers, any of the Vince Flynn or Jack Reacher novels…All-time favorite movies, Godfather 1,2,and 3..Animal House, Blazing Saddles, Schindler’s List.

Coffee or tea or neither?

Coffee and diet iced green tea

What is one thing you dream to do?

I can’t list that here.

What is one place in the world that you would like to visit?

Suburban Beaumont

Where was your last vacation?

After I left that “other place,” I rewarded myself with a cruise that began in Lisbon, Portugal and went through Spain, Monaco and Italy.

What is your favorite soft drink?

Diet Coke

What are your favorite foods?

Cheeseburgers. I’m a real health food nut.

What is your favorite midnight snack?

Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla and chocolate chip cookies

What is your favorite pasttime?

Socializing with friends and meeting new people.
