Learn more about a local blues legend

We’re excited to once again be partnering with Houston Arts Alliance for their Local Roots, Global Culture Stage, which celebrates the diverse musical traditions that call Houston their home.

Texas Johnny Brown began his professional musical career in Houston in the 1940s. Beginning on guitar with Amos Milburn's "Aladdin Chickenshackers," Brown then toured with Bobby "Blue" Bland and Junior Parker in the 1950s and 1960s. Brown spent time as a studio musician for Houston's Duke/Peacock Records and recorded a number of his own musical compositions. Since returning to music full time in 1991, Brown has performed at numerous festivals including Mardi Gras Galveston, Houston International Festivals and has toured in America and Europe. A more detailed list of Brown’s vast accomplishments can been seen here.

We’re looking forward to Texas Johnny Brown’s performance at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at The Houston Arts Alliance Local Roots, Global Culture Stage presented by the HAA Folklife + Traditional Arts Program.
