HOUSTON -- KHOU is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year! Channel 11 signed on the air on March 22, 1953, as KGUL-TV in Galveston. In June 1959, the station changed its call letters to KHOU and relocated to Houston.
One of the first faces of KHOU was Houston native Dan Rather, who earned his journalism degree from Sam Houston State University in 1953.
