Channel 11 signed on the air on March 22, 1953, as KGUL-TV in Galveston. One of the original investors in the station was actor James Stewart, along with a small group of Galveston residents. In June 1959, the station changed its call letters to KHOU and relocated to Houston. On April 24, 1960, the station moved to its present studio facilities just outside downtown Houston on Allen Parkway.

HOUSTON -- KHOU is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year! Channel 11 signed on the air on March 22, 1953, as KGUL-TV in Galveston. One of the original investors in the station was actor James Stewart, along with a small group of Galveston residents.

In June 1959, the station changed its call letters to KHOU and relocated to Houston. On April 24, 1960, the station moved to its present studio facilities just outside downtown Houston on Allen Parkway.
