One of the saddest days at KHOU was in April 2000 when longtime anchorman Sylvan Rodriguez died from pancreatic cancer. Sylvan capped his long and distinguished career as a newsman at KHOU. He faced cancer with poise, determination, and even humor. He was a mentor to many young journalists through the years. Those of us who had the honor of working with Sylvan still miss his warm smile and kind heart.

HOUSTON -- KHOU is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year! Channel 11 signed on the air on March 22, 1953, as KGUL-TV in Galveston. In June 1959, the station changed its call letters to KHOU and relocated to Houston.
