HOUSTON -- KHOU is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year! Channel 11 signed on the air on March 22, 1953, as KGUL-TV in Galveston. In June 1959, the station changed its call letters to KHOU and relocated to Houston.

Dan Rather and Ron Stone were the faces of KHOU 11 News back in the 1960s. Since then, many other nationally-known journalists have passed through our newsroom, including Jessica Savitch, Linda Ellerbee and, Jim Nantz.. More recently, Dr. Neil Frank, Steve Smith, Sylvan Rodriguez, Lisa Foronda and Jerome Gray have carried on the KHOU traditions of strong journalism and community involvement.

The KHOU newsroom of 2013 is a mix of veterans who have been covering Houston for decades and fresh faces who are quickly learning that this is one of the busiest news markets in the country!
