HOUSTON—A Houston restaurant bearing the name of retired NBA star Yao Ming has been shut down.

The Yao Restaurant and Bar was “Locked Out Due Lease Default,” according to a sign taped to the restaurant’s front doors. The door handles were wrapped in a steel chain on Wednesday morning.
Yao retired in July 2011, following multiple injuries to his left foot. He was the top overall pick in the 2002 draft and played his entire NBA career in Houston.
Yao released a statement through the BDA Sports Management agency, stating that he and his family had no ownership in the restaurant and didn’t benefit from it. The statement said Yao’s family was not involved in the “current dispute between the landlords and the owners of the restaurant.”
