HOUSTON—It’s not dinner as usual at the Hotel Derek Friday night.
They’re having their monthly meal special, but this time, it’s all about bugs.
Some of the chef’s specials include wild arugula and fried pancetta with weaver ant larva, seared kangaroo tail with red chilies and mole, and roasted rhino beetle with lemon grass and garlic.
There’s also curried scorpion with green chilies, gelato paired with chocolate silkworm and tempura turtle with citrus crème and avocado.
You can't just go in and order these items though; reservations were taken to make sure they brought in enough bugs from Thailand.
